Brief description of self: Just another ant in the colony trying to bring back food for my family, our family.
1 – i miss you.
Long Description of self: I am an artist trying to bridge our subconscious to the tangible reality we live in. Our dreams & buried thoughts have so much to teach & inform us, it’s just a matter of finding them & pulling them back up to the surface for us to dissect. One day, I hope to be able to bring the idea of constructive self reflection & mindfulness to every single human so that we can become a more connected & thoughtful towards ourselves & each other. A unity amongst the mass conscious.
Why I create: I create surrealist & at times comical pieces about the strangeness of ordinary life. Sometimes it is pleasant, other times it is dark. It represents snapshots in my life that seem to feel like “growing up”. The human condition of growing older, experiencing the highs & lows, the happy & unhappy. Sometimes going to another place helps us reflect upon our day to day lives differently – like looking from outside the fishbowl.
Project Description: 1 – i miss you. 2 – dry mouth. 3 – kissing old friends in dreams.
2 – dry mouth
Medium & why: I mainly use paper & ink but more recently have gotten into digital art using AI. I love using just black & white for my drawings, more so white on black – giving light to the darkness. There’s something to creating something in black & white, stripping an idea down to the core – no colors or gradients or filters. Just pure light & dark. But now I am using AI to create these totally unique pieces that involve color & gradients. I never stick to one medium for too long.
Favorite part of the creative process: The moment I find a buried idea then pluck it from the soil. Once I have that idea, my world becomes a rollercoaster I ride in – letting the idea take me places I could have never imagined. I give that idea full reign until we exhaust ourselves & reach a temporary destination.
The most challenging part of the process: The most challenging part is giving myself the time to think & meditate about what’s next. Allowing myself to stop moving for just a second so that I can let my life come to me rather than me chasing it (participating in the race to nowhere). Believing that the idea is out there, we just have to intersect at the right place, the right time.
Other creative influences: I also make music under the name experienceteevee. (which can be found online as just Teevee.). It is a solo project as of right now & is heavily influenced by shoegaze & slowcore acts like MBV, Duster, & Horse Jumper of Love.
How creativity betters my life: It’s a form of purging – releasing emotions & experiences onto the page/screen. It is bloodletting for the mind – so that you can make room for more experiences, for more growth. Creation is leaving your mark on time & telling others you were here, there.
Advice to other aspiring artists: The hardest thing to do in life is be consistent – to maintain a routine. Find one thing to do every day that makes you happy & always give yourself time to do it. No matter where life takes you, you will always have your routine.
