Real Name: Sarah Website: www.slateandbrush.com Social Media: ig/slateandbrush, fb/slateandbrushdesignstudio
Brief Description of self: I’m an artist who’s (a little overly) obsessed with my rescue dog, pizza, and painting.
Long Description of self: I am a watercolor artist and love creating everything from custom wedding stationery to products like greeting cards, notepads, stickers, and more! I went full time with my business after being in a corporate design job that I hated for almost five years, and couldn’t be happier! While being a full time business owner can be difficult at times, I love working with my clients and creating truly special pieces for them.
Project Name & Details: I included multiple images of wedding invitations and paintings that I’ve made because I have many favorites!
Medium & why: I used to use only gouache, but now I’m pretty much solely watercolor. I love how loose and fluid it is.
Favorite part of the creation process: The beginning idea and painting stage.
The most challenging part of the process: The middle of the painting process when everything looks a little funky.
How creativity betters my life: It makes me feel more relaxed.
Advice to other aspiring artists: While it’s important to take in feedback, you should take everything with a grain of salt. My one art teacher in college gave me a “C” and said that I wasn’t good at drawing, but I used that as fuel because I knew that she was incorrect. Now I have a 3 month waiting list of commissions.
